The TerraTrike Tour is built with a tough chromoly steel frame and provides a rock-solid, strong, touring platform. The Tour is the evolution of the TerraTrike previously known as the 3.6. It's adjustable seat and handlebars are what have made the TerraTrike name famous. The Tour features TerraTrike's premiere paint job with a metallic sparkle red powder coat under a layer of gloss.

The Tour is available in four different boom sizes to accomodate most adult riders. Many custom options are also available.

Is the Tour faster than the Cruiser?

The only thing that would make the Tour faster than the Cruiser ar the tires. The Tour comes stock with the higher-pressure Schwalbe Marathon tires which are faster than the stock CST tires on the Cruiser. Otherwise, the top gearing on the Cruiser and Tour are the same. The Cruiser with it's megarange cassette actually has a lower low gear than the tour. The weight of the two trikes is identical. Both trikes have the same frame and seat. The Tour has a better paint job (arguable if you don't like red). The Tour has better shifters and a better rear derailleur which makes for more reliable shifting (also arguable). The Tour does have a 9-speed rear cassette with an extra inbetween gear than the Cruiser.

I heard that the Chromoly frame was stronger than the Aluminum frame (say of the TT Sport).

I want to use this bike to pull a trailer on a 7,500+- tour of the U.S. My trailer is built of 6063 Aluminum and I am carrying two dog...which means that I have to use a power assist (electric motor). The trailer is not really heavy, about 120 pounds (includes dogs, solar panels, water, etc)...and I am 135 pounds...I just want to be sure that you guys, with all your experience, think that this frame can handle the trip.

Also, I was wondering if you offer custom colors (I don't see it in the pull down menu for this trike)? My trailer is white and bright orange...I was hoping to get a trike that was a bright orange (but the strength of the frame is my primary concern/question).

Having had a bicycle accident two years ago that crushed the T8 vertebrae in my spine and subsequently had surgery that fused 5 of the 7 vertebrae in my neck, riding an upright was difficult and down right dangerous. I could not keep my head up high enough or long enough to see clearly where I was going. Recumbents became the choice of riding after a second accident (no where near as serious) and when I test rode a Tour model, I was hooked on trikes and had to buy a Tour trike. I have had mine for three weeks now and LOVE IT. Especially the red color. I have had more people stop and talk to me about trikes and comments about how 'cool' they are. Riding past a family of riders the dad commented, "Isn't that the coolest bike ever Jake! Now that's the way to ride, sitting down."

My previous riding pattern was weekends only because of my job and long commute, yet with the Tour I have started leaving work early one day a week to beat the early sunset to get a short mid-week ride in as well as a weekend ride.

My one concern is the mesh seat, I keep sliding down and have to push myself back up every so often. I would like to figure out a way to stop the sliding down. Not that it's much of a slide but enough.

Try laying the seat back just a little more. That will cause the frame to cradle you more and you won't slide down as much.

We do have a 26-inch wheel kit for the Tour.

As for gearing, we have many options to raise the gearing up for higher speeds.

I can see the difference between linkage/indirect (Tour) steering and direct (Zoomer) steering. Is one better than the other and, if so, why?

It really just comes down to personal preference. What handlebar position do you like and the physical arm movements necessary.

Assuming the same steering geometry, direct steering will be more responsive and typically will have a sharper turning radius. The indirect steering will be physically easier to turn and will give you more subtle control.

After riding my new Terra Trike Tour that I bought from Utah Trikes in September. I can truthfully say it is an excellent trike. The ride is very good. The frame gives just enough flex. The mesh seat and 26 inch tire makes for a nice comfortable ride. My back does not hurt as much when riding the Tour. I have been maxing out on the gears, on the flat portion of my ride so a Schlumpf drive will probably be needed. A great bike!!!!!
