The cable connection is very straightforward and the only alignment was a couple of twists at the shifter. I didn't use a tensioner but only slid the boom out about a quarter inch to tighten the chain. Great upgrade if you are thinking of an internal hub. Posted by Gary 02/17/2009 07:24:51 AM I've just bought a Cannodale Bad boy 8 ultra, with alfine 8 speed hub. When setting off from lights in any gear above 4th, I get a lag or spongyness on the pedals as I apply pressure to ride away, even though I haven't changed gear. I get instant traction when setting off in 4th or below. Is this normal? Also when pedaling backwards in 5th and above I get a lot more noise from the hub/rear cog, but when in 4th and below I get near to no noise. Posted by dom 03/24/2009 06:11:40 AM Sounds like you need to check the cable adjustment. Set the shifter to 4th and make sure the yellow lines line up exactly on the hub. 5th gear will feel a little different because it is the 1:1 gear, but you should not feel any squishiness. is there a quick release version? Posted by matoya 07/12/2009 10:31:43 PM No, because of the torque to the axle there is no quick release version. Can you fit the Alfine hub w/ a milled down 16t cog? Posted by Anonymous 07/25/2009 11:52:37 AM Yes, although the 16T sprockets have been hard to come by lately. Can an Alfine hub be fitted with a Sun City Lite rim instead of the Velocity Aeroheat rim? Posted by ron 07/28/2009 04:18:53 PM Sure. Let us know and we can lace it up with any particular rim available. I think we actually laced up some last week with the Sun City Lite rims. Does the Alfine hub need to be lubricated periodically? (like the Rohloff) or is it 100% maintenance free? Posted by ron 08/23/2009 04:14:57 PM For the most part it is maintenance free with only one adjustment setting. It is not user serviceable, but should be rebuilt at the 10,000 mile mark. How well does an Alfine, with tensioner work with a standard triple front? Posted by Anonymous 12/11/2009 10:37:14 AM As long as you add the Alfine tensioner it works great with a standard triple up front. what is the cost of overhaul on th Alfine? Posted by rocky 03/16/2010 06:55:56 AM Cost is about $75. I notice that the JTek Bar End Shifter isn't a pull-down option for the Alfine wheel kits. Do you have any idea when that option will be available? Posted by Jareth 05/30/2010 01:38:13 AM The Jtek shifter recently became available again. We have them in stock and available now. can I exchange the 3 speed sturmy-archer on my Path with this kit? What else would I need? Is it as straight forward as it seems to be to me? Posted by sennaman 05/31/2010 11:41:25 AM This kit comes with everything you need to put the Alfine on the Path. Can I put an Alfine wheel on my Catrike 700 with a Schlumpf HSD? I don't see a 700 size listed in the catalog. Posted by celear 07/07/2010 08:47:20 PM I added the option. If you have a folder (I have a GS GT5 Series II) and add a Schlumpf HSD and internal hub transmission you will need to put in a chain tensioner so you can continue to fold. I found this out the hard way but now have everything running perfectly thanks to Ashley and team. Frankly, I think the tensioner actually made everything work better. Posted by Rich 07/10/2010 02:16:39 PM Can this hub be used on the Greenspeed gt3? What would the gear inches be? Can the existing bar end be used in the friction mode? Posted by Gary 07/11/2010 07:44:46 AM Yes. The 16-inch wheel can be used on the GT3. The gear inch range can be adjusted depending on the rear sprocket used.
