Schlumpf High-Speed Drive
We now have two versions of the High Speed Drive available. The 27T version will give you 27T and 67.5T chainring equivalents. The 34T version will give you 34T and 85T chainring equivalents. We recommend the 34T version for use with the Nuvinci or Rohloff hubs so as to not exceed their maximum torque ratings. If you are replacing a standard triple crankset, the 27T will give you lower and higher gears while reducing the gear ratio overlap. The Schlumpf High Speed Drive (HSD) provides a very elegant solution that eliminates the standard front derailleur and improves the chainline besides just giving you higher gearing. Another big advantage is that you can shift at anytime, whether you are stopped or coasting, so you’ll never get stuck in too high of a gear. The High Speed Drive eliminates the front derailleur and the double or tripe chain rings. It has a single chain ring with internal planetary gears. The Schlumpf High Speed Drive is an internal gearing solution that uses planetary gears to increase the rotational speed of the chainring compared to the crank arms by 250% when engaged. When disengaged, the cranks are effectively locked to the 27-tooth sprocket. With such a wide gear range, the HSD completely replaces the front chainrings, derailleur, and shifter, even though it only has two gears. The wide gear range means virtually no overlapping of the gear ratios. Also check out our 152mm pedal cranks for the Schlumpf drives. In-shop installation of the Schlumpf High Speed Drive on your trike or boom is free at time of purchase. Don't hassle trying to do it yourself, Send us your boom or bring in your trike and let us do it for you! We always have multiple TerraTrikes on the showroom floor equipped with the Schlumpf HSD, so you can come and see for yourself. One of our favorite setups combines the Schlumpf HSD with the Nexus 8 hub (standard on the TerraTrike Commuter).
The Schlumpf High Speed Drive is the sleak solution to getting the high gears.
The High Speed Drive come standard on the TerraTrike Commuter. Exclusively at Utah Trikes.
Share your comments below: Hey guys! I recently sent you a Greenspeed boom for you to install a Schlumpf HSD for me for my Greenspeed GT5 (I had already installed a SRAM Dual Drive in the rear) – got the boom back and installed – stripped off all the old shifter, derailer, chainrings, etc and added some TerraCycle titanium idlers… I’ve ridden the trike now just under 100 miles and LOVE the combo and WHAT a gear range!!!!! Thanks for the good work and the fast turnaround! You guys are awesome! Posted by Brad R. 03/26/2009 12:05:07 PM Would this application be a good addition to a catrike 700, or would it be better to go with a larger chainring? Posted by Dave 07/22/2009 05:26:12 PM I have a Schlumpf HSD on all my trikes. The 700 with the HSD is just about right. Thank you for the quick turn-around. I have everything put back together and the Schlumpf Drive is great. Thanks for the great service. Posted by Keith 08/04/2009 09:53:32 AM Thank you! Would it be a good replacement for the Catrike Road for a higher gear range? Posted by Tery 10/04/2009 11:16:47 AM This is what we recommend for any 20-inch trike. It will give you a much wider gear range than the stock setup.
