Staff Review:
"The KMX Cobra is an awesome trike to take off road. The knobby tires can grip just about any surface. Its aggressive stance allows you to scale bumpy hills and choppy roads. With its rear brake its easy to power-slide on any surface, as well as provide a parking brake system." - Krysti

I can clearly see a rear brake in the pictures, yet the details specify no rear brake?

Yes, there is a rear brake.

Country of Origin?

KMX are designed in the UK. There is no indication from them that they come from anywhere else, but I assume they are fabricated in Taiwan.

will this trike handle 6'3"

If you scoot the seat back all the way and slide the boom out (you'll need to add a bit of chain) you'll fit.
Posted by Ashley

You don't carry the longer booms for riders with a longer x-seam?

07/28/2009 12:48:00 PM

Yes. It is available for $75.

I live in the country lots of dirt roads and trails rough terrain and steep hills would this bike do? I am a female 5'4" tall.

The Cobra is perfect for this kind of riding.
Posted by Ashley

The best trike in this price range. I have been enjoying my Cobra since early April putting on a meager 15 kms on and off the bike trails here east of Toronto. You have no worry of breaking this thing as the drive train is well protected. Sorry Utah is so far away though your website is full of valuable information.

are the trikes shipped completely unassembled or do you partially assemble?
i saw the racks, but is there a bag available large/small to fit behind the seat?

We ship all KMX trikes fully assembled.
Take a look at the Axion Cartier bags from the catalog section.

As fast as you can pedal!

Of course.

What's the top speed that this trike can produce?
Posted by ron
12/10/2009 01:03:52 PM

On level ground? Down a hill? How fast can you pedal? Most riders will max in the mid 20s with the stock gearing.
Posted by Ashley

If I were to ride one of these trikes down a flat dirt road would that be considered off-roading? (I weigh roughly about 270lbs.)
Posted by ron
12/11/2009 05:39:21 PM

No, off road means trails and bumps and represents more abuse.
Posted by Ashley

Is the seat on this trike the same size as the seat on the typhoon?
Posted by ron
12/12/2009 10:24:46 AM

It is the exact same seat.
Posted by Ashley

Is the cobra frame made from hi-tensile steel or cromoly?
Posted by ron
12/14/2009 11:54:36 AM

The Cobra and Viper have Chromoly Steel frames while the Tornado and Typhoon have Hi Carbon Steel frames.
Posted by Ashley

The typhoon, cobra and viper all weighed 43 lbs. in 2009, why is their a change?

01/09/2010 11:06:17 AM

The 2010 models include the new seat, which is heavier.

Can a mesh seat be put on this trike?
Posted by Mr. C

Yes, we have a mesh seat option.
Posted by Ashley

Hi guys, I purchased this trike 3 months ago from you and am loving it! Quick question; do you know if their are any commercially available electrical assist self install options to add to this trike? I would love to turn this into my off-road dirt buggy...

02/21/2010 08:06:27 AM

We have kits from BionX and Golden Motors.

Can the hubs from a KMX be swapped out with a different brand of hub, especially if one wanted to build a custom wheel for instance. (front and rear)
Posted by Anonymous
05/12/2010 08:38:34 PM

The kmx hubs use a smaller axle than most readily available hubs. You could swap out bearings though for the smaller diameter axle.
Typically, we would start out with KMX hubs and build them into the wheel we wanted.

Is the seat on the cobra pictured above the upgrade you offer in your catalog section, and is it included on the cobra?
Posted by TJ
06/30/2010 08:46:11 PM

Yes, the pictures show the upgraded seat. It is now standard with the Cobra.
Posted by Ashley

Hi Ashley.. I have a black 2009 Typhoon (before the fat tires)... where can I see the mesh seat option you mentioned above?
Posted by Jimmy
07/25/2010 02:05:14 PM

Take a look at the recent trikes page in our custom shop. It shows that exact setup.

I want to add a dog powered device onto a trike. Will the KMX Cobra work with that? Do I need to do anything to the trike to use it?
Posted by Tia
02/13/2011 11:00:36 AM

We do have a dog attachment system made for the KMX. I recommend the addition of fenders. Otherwise the gearing configuration and other upgrades is up to you.
