I've had several people ask about regenerative braking. YES, the BionX system does have regenerative braking and can charge the battery when you ar pedaling faster than the motor or going down hills. Using that feature you can substancially increase the range. Can the motor be used on the front wheels? Posted by ed 06/03/2008 12:55:20 AM No, because of the custom trike hubs on the front it would not work to put a motor on the front without redesign. Also, the BionX axle is not designed to be suspended from one side. Any chance of getting the BionX unit coupled to the quad's powertrain? I'm guessing you're having issues with the necessity of using a derailer - would love to see a quad w/BionX, plus solar panel - which would mount nicely on the rear platform for charging the battery. Would make an awesone long distance touring machine! Posted by Dave 11/02/2008 08:57:53 AM The BionX will not work with the Quad, but we do have a system that we are working on using an inline electric motor. It will allow us to use gearing for better torque and higher top speed. When will it be available again? Posted by Phil 03/29/2009 05:10:52 PM As soon as the backorders get resolved and BionX is able to provide us with more units we will add the option to our customizers again. Can you just use leg power with no electric help when you want? Posted by Billy 04/01/2009 01:01:52 PM Yes. The BionX system is passive, so when it's not on you can pedal like normal. Can the Bionx equipped trike be classified as a mobility assistance device? Can it be covered under medicare? I live in TX and here mobility assistance devices don't require registration or a license. Posted by elvato59 07/02/2009 03:11:52 PM That would be something that you would need to check locally. |
