Wide Angle Modification for the ATC-2000

The Oregon Scientific ATC-2K Helmet Camera is a great product. But we found a way to make that camera even better. With the simple change of adding a Wide-Angle Lens and improving the audio, it's a much more usable camera. Read our Article about how we did this and what advantages you can gain with the really simple Mod.

Yeah, we did some tests using other microphones, and found that the low recording bit-depth makes it sound like crap anyways.

When I first got mine last week, I tested video and found the sound to be way over driven. But,it was because I had the back cover off. I put the cover on and the mic was nearly muted. Also, as noticed in the videos posted by UTAHTRIKES.COM, the video is very "liquid" or wavy when there is lots of movement. I use a Sandisk Extreme III card and the data rate is not the problem. It is just that the video is very spoungy. The liquid effect is worse at 640x480 and 30fps. At 320x240 30fps, it is not as bad. SO, it would appear that the internal data rate of the camera just cannot keep up with 640x480 30fps.

Oregon Scientific designed the camera as a "THROW AWAY"; I called and asked about a replacement part (battery compartment door broke) and was advised no parts available. Plastic welded door back up and works fine.

There is a ATC3K which apparently has a 48degree FOV.
What is the resulting FOV of the ATC2K after mod?
