Pauls Smokin Blue Ice Q

Get your own
This ICE Q features suspension, Capreo gearing, quick-release kit, and the new Schwalbe Marathon Supreme Tires.

Quick Release Axle
With the quick release kit installed, breaking down the ICE for easy transportation is an easy job. No tools required. Just loosen the lever and unscrew the axle bolt, then the wheel slides right off.

Quick Release Handlebar
Even the handlebars get easy adjust quick releases. This makes it real easy to get just the right fit too.

Sturmey Archer Drum Brakes
The drum brakes make pulling the wheel off real easy. The drums require a little more time to break in than disk brakes do, but once they are broken in they are practically maintenance free. Because of their sealed nature, drums work very well even when riding through water and mud.

The Trice Swingarm
The swingarm suspension works perfectly. You can see here the red elastomer that gives you the cushion. The elastomer can be moved up or down to adjust the feel.

The Cruciform
The blue cruciform is brazed in the UK by the folks at ICE. This is the main part of the trike that everything else attaches to. It is made from 4130 lightweight chromoly steel.

Chainline
This Trice got the upgraded TerraCycle Idler kit, which allowed us to completely eliminate the chain tubes. Very smooth and quiet with minimal drag on the chain.

Foldable Suspension
The 20-inch suspension adds the "foldable" feature to the Q. If you pull the wheel out undo the velcro strap the rear swingarm will fold under the seat.

Capreo Gearing
The ICE 20-inch models come with a custom hub that includes a modified Capreo 9-speed cassette. The Capreo has a 10 and 9 tooth sprocket to give you higher high gears. The modified cassette has a 9-34 spread so you don't lose the low gears.

ICE Steering
The ICE steering is absolutely incredible. You get a great tendency to go straight and just the right amount of fight in the turns.

Truvativ Elita Cranks
The Q comes standard with the Truvativ Elita crankset. You can also see here the SRAM X.9 front derailleur and the custom bolt on light mount.

Adjustable Rear Boom
The ICE trikes feature an adjustable rear boom you can see here with the quick releases. You can slide the boom in or out to adjust the riding characteristics by changing the wheelbase. The seat can also be adjusted more than its standard position by sliding the boom. The ICE truly is the most adjustable trike.

TerraCycle Idlers
The TerraCycle idlers are our favorite, and for good reason. Super smooth and high performance. Low and easy maintenance.

SRAM X9 Components
The ICE trikes come stock with our favorite set of components, the SRAM X9. Here you can see the rear derailleur. The SRAM 1:1 cable actuated shifter means shifting gears is smooth and precise.

Rear Mudguard
The TRICE Q comes stock with a rear mudguard. You can also see the added Fastback add on gear bag.

Schwalbe Marathon Supreme
Paul has the new Marathon Supreme 20x1.6 tires on his Q. These tires are rated as fast as the Racers with a new ceramic puncture resistance. You can also see the front quick release boom.

Adjustable Front Boom
The boom is made of stiff, lightweight 7005 aluminum allow. It's easily adjusble to get just the right leg length.

Looks good- I have a Trice Q about to be delivered and until it comes I just have to make do with drooling over these photos. However the front chainring/rear cog selection in these photos is definitely giving the derailleur a workout!

With regards to the TerraCycle Idler, i've seen pictures where some require additional tubing or ilders to make this set-up work for this model due to the flat chain line on the return side. I.e. the chain drags on the "keeper". I'm guessing one could pull a few extra links out of the chain to keep it taught to mitigate the drag? I'm guessing boom extension would also play into it? Curious how you make it work and whether there is occasional keeper drag/noise? Thanks.

Sometimes it is not good to remove all the chain tube, especially on folding trikes. You want to make sure the chain can't rub anything.
