TerraTrike Zoomer 26-inch Wheel Upgrade Kit
Looking to add more zoom to your Zoomer or Zoomer Elite? This comes with everything you need to convert to a larger 26-inch rear wheel. A larger wheel has a greater circumference which means higher gearing and higher top speed. The stock Zoomer/Zoomer Elite gearing gives you 90 Gear Inches. With the 26-inch wheel your top gearing is now 120 Gear Inches. that brings the speed up to 32MPH at a 90rpm cadence versus 24MPH with the stock gearing!!! The kit comes with everything you need (except for the tools). With the stock kit, the wheel does not come with a cassette, so you will either need to add one or pull the cassette off of your 20-inch wheel. Kit includes: 26-inch wheel (Zoomer silver hub/Elite black hub) Tire (Zoomer CST/Elite Marathon) Machined Adapter plates Bolts and washers Chains w/Master Links (8 and 9 speed) Instruction sheet Pricing: $109.95 - Upgrade price (when purchased with a Zoomer/Elite) $149.95 - Aftermarket $179.95 - Aftermarket with cassette --------------------------------- 26-inch fender is also available from the drop down above.
Share your comments below: Does this affect the recline of the seat? I like mine as reclined as possible. Posted by Northwoodstriker 02/14/2009 08:20:05 AM No, the extensions place the angle of the trike in exactly the same position, so the seat angle stays the same. I have the WizWheelz black aluminum rack on my Zoomer. Will it still fit with the big wheel? How hard is it to swap the cassette from stock wheel to the big one? Thanx. Posted by TexBent 02/14/2009 10:39:24 AM If you raise up the bottom rack stays to their highest psition it should clear, but it is close. We are working on the possibility of getting longer rack stays made available. First I wish this came out last year before the wife bought the Catrike Expedition (and now owns 2 trikes). Second I could get VERY excited if this fit the Wizwheelz Tour model 2007! Very excited. Posted by Doug up in Alberta 02/14/2009 07:19:22 PM Well, sadly this kit will not work with the Tour as the Tour has different wheel stays. For details on that type of conversion look at our Gary's Custom Cruiser article. If you buy the basic ($109.95) kit, does the wheel come with a freehub installed, or must you swap the freehub AND the cassette off the stock wheel? Posted by TexBent 02/15/2009 11:05:22 AM The basic kit does not come with the cassette. You will need to pull it off of your 20-inch wheel. The freewheel mechanism is part of the hub. You will need the FR-5 tool (available from the dropdown above) to change the cassette. Otherwise, we also have the kits available with new cassettes too. will these work on a sport? Posted by doug 02/28/2009 03:51:06 PM No, the extensions are cut out to work exclusively with the Zoomer. We have made similar brackets for the tour, but its frame flexes more without additional bracing. What is the actual size of the Marathon tire is it 26 x 1.50 or 26 x 1.75? Posted by Seyephi 03/17/2009 04:37:50 AM It is 1.5 while the CST tire is 1.75. Adding a 26in. wheel does it raise the seat height on the zoomer Thanks Posted by craig 04/07/2009 05:30:06 AM The angle of the extensions keeps the height of the seat the same and the center of gravity is unaffected. The wheelbase is elongated some which gives better high-speed handling. Will this install on a WizWheelz TerraTrike Path Plus? Posted by jmbowers54 05/26/2009 08:33:32 PM No, these will only work on the Zoomer Will this work on an Aussie Greenspeed trike, like the GLS? Posted by OzDave 06/03/2009 03:15:40 AM No, the Zoomer kit will only fit on the Zoomer. Since I'm considering buying a zoomer to tour, I wonder if you've resolved the potential problem mentioned by texBent: "I have the WizWheelz black aluminum rack on my Zoomer. Will it still fit with the big wheel? How hard is it to swap the cassette from stock wheel to the big one? Thanx. Posted by TexBent Posted by Pete 06/15/2009 09:11:09 AM The rack will fit w/o a fender. Otherwise we recommend the Axiom rack. As far as the cassette goes, the Park FR5 tool does it easy. Can you, please, touch on the advantages and disadvantages of the 26-inch wheel? Posted by Pete 06/23/2009 08:27:22 AM The main advantage of a larger rear wheel is that it gives you higher gearing without any serious gear modifications. Because the tire can spin less revolutions to cover the same amount of ground as a smaller tire, a larger tire will typically roll faster. We have found that while wheel size can make a performance difference, the tires themselves will actually make a bigger difference. There are several Axiom racks--can you recommend a particular model to use with the 26-inch wheel on the Zoomer? Posted by Pete 06/23/2009 08:32:37 AM The Odysee will work on the Zoomer, but you will need to modify the support stays that normally connect to a bike seat so that they will attach to the rear of the Zoomer seat. If one wanted a 26" wheel w/ Nexus or Alfine hub, what kind of rim would you use? (For the Zoomer upgrade) Posted by Ron 06/28/2009 05:40:53 PM Unless otherwise requested, we typically use a Velocity Aeroheat rim.
