Idler: TerraCycle Sport Idlers
The TerraCycle Sport Idler series includes ABEC5 bearings and a molded casing. Just like their original idlers, the Sport idlers can be disassembled and rebuilt when neccessary. You can purchase individual idlers from us or complete idler kits for specific trikes. We offer the following Sport idlers:
The over/under idler is used when chain management requires power and return to be run side by side. The power idler is used to route the power side of the chain and features an aluminum sprocket. The return idler is used to route the return idler of the chain and features a polyeurthane cushion. About the TerraCycle Sport Idlers: The Sport Power Idlers is all metal inside from the chain down to the bearing. The plastic (a high strength fiberglass reinforced Nylon "Engineering Plastic") is very tough and highly solvent resistant. The return chain beds are urethane as before, but molded. The plastics are both made in the USA, and TerraCycle has the parts molded locally in Portland by a place that makes all kinds of parts for Boeing and Raytheon and a whole bunch of very picky folks. The fasteners are stainless with Nylon locking inserts. The cogs are made from 7075 AL. The cog and bearing carrier are precision machined and press fit together with the bearings. The urethane used on the new return idlers is basically the same as the urethane on the original TerraCycle idlers. Different brand, but the same quality and class of material. The new urethane is the same durometer (softness/hardness) and has been tested for toughness. It is very tough, as tough as the original stuff. The new urethane is molded instead of extruded. With molding, everything about the size, shape, and color can be controlled. The Sport series is molded in yellow to match the bearings and distinguish the line from the Original idlers.
Share your comments below: I have stock idlers on my Terra Trike Tour. I had to go with the smooth idler on the power side (front Idler) because the stock toothed idler (because it has a smaller chain diameter) caused the chain to rub the bottom of the trikes cross member with my boom extender in place. Will the over under TerraCycle Sport idlers be as large or larger in diameter than the stock TerraTrike Idlers? and would I need to also get a larger chain keeper or kit? Posted by GF 08/03/2009 08:22:34 AM The TerraCycle idlers are larger. You will need a new chainkeeper as well. My suggestion is to get the kit which comes with the spacers and chain keepers.
