Idler: TerraCycle Over/Under Idlers (no kit)
The Sport Over/Under Idler has a 15 tooth Aluminum cog, and a urethane band return side. This idler combines all the features of the power and sport idler in one idler for over/under applications only! ABEC rated bearings and beautifully molded ballistic nylone (aerospace grade) side plates offer years of durable and functional service. This is a serious upgrade to any stock over/under idler system. There is now no reason to keep the hard plastic stock idler that is noisy and robs power from the drivetrain. A toothed idler will generally always outperform and outlast a non-toothed idler. The Elite Over/ Under Idler has a Titanium cog and Hybrid Ceramic Bearings. This is one of the nicest and most advanced idlers TerraCycle makes with beautifully machined aluminum side plates on the power side, with molded ballistic nylon outer plate on the return side and a custom machined polycarbonate center plate. All this adds up to serious bling and durability that no other over/under idler can even compete with. This idler in many configurations has been used on some of the most advanced racing recumbents ever built and was featured on the Rans RAAM 2009 team bikes (custom bearings -please see XStream/F5 kit). They have been making this idler for years and have great confidence in its ability to function for performance and durability. We have one Aluminum Over/Under Idler with ABEC 7 bearings left, so first come first serve!
Share your comments below: Can I use these as upgrades to the idlers on my Zoomer? Can I use my existing spaces/chain keepers etc.? I already have Delrin idlers on the power side. Posted by Bill 07/13/2009 02:01:48 AM The Zoomer has some special idler requirements because of the close tolerances. In most cases mounting the larger TerraCycle Idler to the stock rear idler mounting position (assuming stock gearing) will result in the chain rubbing the wheel stay in the highest gear. A Lizard Skin can be used though to prevent the paint from rubbing off.
