TerraCycle Clamp On Idler Mount
We spent years trying to adapt our high quality idler kits to the stock mounts that most recumbents came with. This turned into a nightmare as mounting bosses changed during different model years or were offered in sizes that were not 8mm, were smooth bore instead of threaded or worse yet the idlers were not in the ideal locations to take advantage of opportunities for better chainlines. We decided that the solution was to create our own custom idler mounts which would allow you to put the idler package where you want instead of having to use poorly placed or non-existetent stock mounts. Many stock mounts are not designed to accept a threaded bolt meaning that floating an idler kit is very difficult, also many stock mounts use 6mm or smaller bolts which is not always enough bearing surface or strength for power idlers under large loads, especially when pedalling uphill at slow cadence. Riders wishing to get rid of multiple feet of chain tubes can often do this with a carefully placed idler package starting with this clamp on mount as the base. Each mount has multiple holes to choose from for mounting the idler(s) at just the height you want. The 60mm mount has 2 holes the others all have 3. So this means you can control fore and aft location plus height of the idler package, if you flip the clamp above the tube this gives you an additional 2 or 3 elevation choices. These clamps are designed for round tube only and do not function for oval or other sized tubes. Measure your diameter carefully before ordering to ensure you are getting the correct clamp set. Tubing can be SAE or Metric sizes and paint can throw off the measurement a bit, but the clamps for that tube size will still fit. If you are not able to measure accurately or not finding you size of tubing here, email us directly we may know the size on your bike or be able to machine shims to fit.
Share your comments below: which size would work with the action bent T1 Posted by kl 03/18/2010 12:19:09 PM I believe most of the Actionbent/Performer trikes use a 60mm clamp. Measure the diameter with a set of calipers to be sure.
