Bring home the groceries, haul boxes, do almost all your errands by bike! The Cargo Monster is unafraid of serious loads! Go to the hardware store for fencing and concrete- no problem! Tour cross country and neatly carry everything you need. The Cargo Monster features: We at TerraCycle have been longtime fans of XtraCycle, whose products and earth friendly philosophies have inspired them to transform thousands of mountain and road bikes into the most amazing cargo hauling machines. The XtraCycle longtail concept enables cyclists to do with their bikes what was usually accomplished with their cars or bulky bike trailers. In Portland Oregon where we live the streets are alive every day with multitudes of XtraCycle outfitted riders doing their thing and leaving their cars at home! We thought that it was time that a recumbent version was available - the Xtracycle version is specific to diamond frame bikes and fits very few recumbents, what with their odd frame sizes, spacing and tubing orientations. What we created with the Cargo Monster is a semi-custom add on longtail frameset (an entirely new frameset with recumbent specific orientation, features and strength) that makes it possible for recumbents to install the same cool Xtracycle accessories that were previously only available for upright bikes. Now hauling 4-6 bags of groceries, guitars, boxes and bags of all sorts (use your imagination) is not only possible and practical but can become an every day event. We have been using a Cargo Monster attached to both a Catrike Road and a Wizwheelz Tour for several months now around the shop and it has proven to be an amazing cargo hauler without taking away the sporting fun that trikes are known for. One benefit of the longer wheelbase is that the Cargo Monstered trikes track even better downhill than they did in their stock configuration. Turning radius, while increased, is not so compromised that you can't turn around in a street width or negotiate/navigate all the normal maneuvers that you and your trike are used to doing. Now going to the store or garage sales with your trike is not only possible but encouraged, leave the car at home and put the trike to work as something more than it has ever been before. If you think about going car lite or even car free then the ability to still take care of your daily needs is possible The cost/benefit of the Cargo Monster is quickly realized as something that can have incredibly long lasting value- plus, it is just plain fun to go about the day on a nimble recumbent trike that can do real work. If you are not familiar with the Xtracycle phenomena then you should take a look around at a variety of websites that you can google up and see all the cool things that people who own the upright version of these are doing. We have raised the bar on the recumbent version with built in motor mounts, idler mounts, heavy duty load designed frame (using oversized ChroMo tubing, not so heavy in weight), and all kinds of side benefits like fender mounts, disc tab, adjustable top deck height depending on whether you are using 20 or 26" wheels. As long as we are on wheel size, it is possible on many trikes to go to a larger size rear wheel with the Cargo Monster. The TerraCycle Cargo Monster includes trike specific attachment hardware, a rear custom made frameset that has idler mounts, electic motor mounts (see Eco Speed at the EcoSpeed Website). There are so many Xtracycle accessories that will fit the Cargo Monster that we let you choose what fits your needs best. The options include a set up to carry 4 large panniers or another set up that allows you to carry 4-6 grocery bags plus a host of other items to exhaustive to list (longtail acc kit). Some riders who are more sport oriented but who want the benefits of the longer wheelbase will want to carry the minimum which is just one P Rack with attachment collars. The basic Cargo Monster allows you to add on as you become more inspired and creative over time. Most of us choose the Longtail Accessory kit since this is the original kit that allows you to have the most versatility initially. The Cargo Monster is presently available for Catrikes, Greenspeeds and Wizwheelz (TerraTrike). We will configure kits for other trikes, select recumbent bikes, and even some upright bikes over the coming months. We have also designed idler kits that help further manage the chainline. The Cargo Monster already has the mounts for these idlers installed as part of the frameset. The idlers required depend on the make and model of trike/bike. The TerraTrikes with rear over/under idlers do not require addtional idlers for chain management.
