TerraCycle Tailsok
The original reason for creating this product was to duplicate the aerodynamic efficiency of hard tail fairings long used by recumbent racers all over the world. We have created a highly visible and portable version of these tail fairings that allows you to be more visible during the day and night while riding faster or with less effort at the same speed. On tests with a variety of bikes, speed increases between 1.5 and 4 mph were not uncommon. You can generally expect a 5 to 7 percent increase in speed which for riders hoping to get the most aerodynamic benefit out of their bikes is not insignificant and for long distance touring this adds up to more miles every day or easier miles on the road, not to mention the huge margin of safety you afford yourself while sharing the road with vehicles. Some recumbents and their riders will notice larger gains, others less, but everyone will see a benefit. The TailSok kits consists of a multi-adjustable alloy frame that is easily attached to the bike with cleverly designed brackets that allows the frame to be removed or attached in less than a minute. A stretchy lycra Sok fits over your seat and then back over the frame. A tailight fitting (included) allows you attach a rear tailight outside the Sok and a FireFly internal light. The lycra Soks come in a variety of colors. For commuters and riders that really want to be seen we recommend the neon orange or neon yellow which are highly visible during the day and when illuminated from inside with the FireFly light option, will make your bike stand out dramatically for evening riding. There is now a version of the TailSok specifically for Trikes. Although it is optimized for Catrike, Greenspeed and WizWheelz trikes, the adjustability of the frame allows it to fit other similarly configured trikes (ICE, etc.) with mesh seats. Please contact us directly if you do not see your trike listed. The Tailsok kits are only available for 20" rear wheel trikes.
Share your comments below: I ride a SCARAB Recumbent Trike/scarabtrikes.com and wondered first, if the tailsock would fit it and lastly, if it came without the Logo on it. The SCARAB is pretty close to the same build of the Greenspeed and it already has a rear rack on it. Thank you, Lindsey J. It looks like the tailsok could work with only some minor adaptation. Looking to pick one up this Spring. Couple of questions: 1.) Does tailsok fit over any existing accessory? I have a fender in place right now. 2.) Have you put one on a Zoomer yet? Just wondering if you prefer a yellow on yellow or if the orange looks better. The yellow is a little more prone to fading I've found. The Orange looks great on the Zoomer. 3.) You mentioned a taillight mount, do you recommend a certain light for its ease of installation on the sok? You can also put a flashing light inside the tailsok and the whole thing will glow. It can be tricky turning it on though. Is this tail sock easily adaptable to other trikes. The frame is very adjustable and can be bolted on to different parts of your trike. The Lycra stretches around the seat. Dearest Richard and Ashley,is this tailsok waterproof or is it necessary to cover it with some kind of waterproof cloth ,such as goretex,or the like, while traveling fully geared?Thanks! Is there a tailsok for the Catrike 700? Also, with a tailsok, what's recommended for mounting water bottles, water bladders, and for using rear racks and panniers? Earlier I saw a posting (elsewhere) where someone got a neon green tailsok. Is it possible to get that color (to match color of trike)? Thanks!
